Sample Itinerary - Paleo Expedition

Below is a sample itinerary for you to review. While we are happy to discuss general needs and desires, we do not plan or release specific itineraries until the tour is confirmed and a down payment has been made. All efforts are taken to ensure a customized tour exactly to your satisfaction and specification.

Day 1:
Arrival in airport and head to Casablanca. We’ll spend the rest of the day doing some regional sight seeing. Spend the night in Casablanca.

Day 2: Head to Marrakech, the historical, cultural and handicraft’s capital of the kingdom. In the evening, we’ll go out on the famous place of Jama El F'nna and discover the charming nightlife of Marrakech.

Day 3: Marrakech sight seeing, visit all historical and cultural monuments that make the city the most unique capital of North Africa.

Day 4: Continue our journey towards the southeast, Quarzazate will be our next station, driving through the high Atlas Mountains.

Day 5: Head farther south to Foum zguid, to a new Devonian locality where the new forked comura comes from.

Day 6: Spend the day exploring the region to find new localities and best places to dig.

Day 7: Head back east to Rissani. On the way we’ll be stopping at a bunch of little trilobite prepping workshops. We’ll spend 4 nights in this hotel and will be doing daily trips to different localities.

Day 8: We’ll be driving out to two good Cambrian trilobite localities. Spend the day digging out in the quarries. We’ll have possibilities to do some shopping from local fossil hunters.

Day 9: Drive out to Atchana - one of the best Devonian localities (red rock). Spend the day out in the quarries and head back to Rissani in the evening, or those who want to stay with a local Berber family in their home, we leave the option open for tonight.

Day 10: Today we are going to be visiting an interesting phacops locality located south east of Taburikt. Head back in the evening all together to Rissani.

Day 11: Head to Erfoud, visit all the little workshops where the majority of the Moroccan polished fossils comes from. We will also visit some important trilobite dealers of the region. In the afternoon, we will go out to some interesting Devonian and Silurian formations and we’ll also take a look at an interesting locality where scutellum pygidiums and cephalons are found in mass quantities. After that, we will give the ones who are interested the option to spend the night out in the desert at a small little hostel at the foot of the sand dunes which will be on the way for our next excursion the next day to a dinosaur teeth locality. The hostel is at a beautiful location where you can ride camels into the dunes at sunset or sunrise.

Day 12: Catch up with the rest of the group at the hostel. Continue on towards Kemkem to a Cretaceous layer where all the dinosaur and fish teeth are found and other interesting fossils as well. At the end of the day, return to Erfoud and spend the night there.

Day 13: Head back towards Midelt, the mineral city of Morocco. Visit some important fossil dealers and preppers.

Day 14: Drive out to an important Jurassic ammonite locality, very rich with all kind of different species of ammonites. Head back to Midelt at the end of the day and spend one more night there at a nice hotel.

Day 15: Head back to Casablanca, spend the night in Settat, near the airport.

Day 16: Departure day.
